Photoaging - why sun protection is so important

Photoaging - warum Sonnenschutz so wichtig ist

If there's only one thing you should do, it's use sunscreen. Yes, more important than moisturizer and even more important than daily cleansing!

The sun emits two types of skin-damaging UV rays:

UVB radiation accounts for 5% of the UV radiation that reaches our skin. UVB is responsible for sunburns and delayed tanning, and is therefore the main cause of skin cancer.

UVA radiation accounts for 95% of the UV radiation that reaches our skin. UVA can penetrate into the lower layers of the skin and damage its structure there.

In short, UV A stands for A aging and UV B stands for (sun) burn .

Aside from the risk of skin cancer, solar radiation is the main cause of skin aging. Ultraviolet rays cause everything we want to avoid: wrinkles, dullness, hyperpigmentation, and dryness. Even a beautiful tan is a sign that your skin is fighting back against sun damage. UV damage is such a significant factor in premature skin aging that it has its own term: photoaging.

Therefore, we see sunscreen as the ultimate anti-aging product!

It absorbs harmful UVA and UVB rays, preventing them from penetrating your skin. Sunscreen comes in many different forms, such as creams, sprays, sticks, oils, or powders.

For optimal protection, we recommend using a sunscreen cream, as it's easier to portion and ensures you apply enough product (1 teaspoon). Powders, sprays, and sticks are ideal for touch-ups on the go. If you're spending a lot of time in the sun, it's advisable to reapply sunscreen approximately every 2 hours.
